We are delighted that you chose the Alliance Française de Seattle for your learning journey! We welcome all students of French and aim to offer fun and effective classes adapted to your needs. AFSeattle offers a wide range of French courses, taking place online or on-site at our Wallingford location, in the heart of Seattle.

Understanding our level progression

OUR TEACHERS

Our teaching staff is composed of highly qualified French instructors with native fluency and degrees in teaching French as a foreign language.  We are proud to be a diverse school with teachers representing a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds that represent the richness of the French-speaking world. MEMBERSHIP PERKS FOR STUDENTS

AFSeattle members get a 10% discount on any additional group class in the same quarter (except for the General French courses) and access to early enrollment priority and discounts. Registration fees are waived for members. Read about our perks and become a member here! 


PLACEMENT TEST

New students or learners returning after more than three (3) quarters: our placement test is mandatory before enrolling. We offer a free online test here (start where you estimate your level to be!). 


TYPES OF COURSES

General French

An interactive method-based approach, following a textbook. Three classes complete a level (For A1: A1.1, A1.2, A1.3). 

  • Pace: 2x 1.5h weekly (Sat. classes are 1x 2.5h weekly).
  • Duration: 10 weeks.
  • 25 to 30 hours per course.

Specialized French

A more flexible approach with a special focus (e.g. grammar, reading, writing, oral communication, etc.).

  • Learning pace: 1.5h or 2h weekly.
  • Duration: 5 weeks.
  • 7.5 to 10 hours per course.

Specialized courses are organized in 5-week sessions, allowing students to register for 1 or several sessions during the term.


Intensive Reviews

1-week intensive courses to review an entire level.

  • Learning pace: intensive, 2h or 2.5h daily
  • Duration: 4 or 5 days
  • 10 hours

Recommended once a student has reached the end of a level and/or before starting the next one, or as a refresher course. 


Workshops

Designed to cover a specific topic for one or two class sessions (pronunciation for beginners, informal French, French for travel, DELF Preparation, etc.).

  • Pace: 1 or 2 sessions
  • 1.5 to 6 hours

Experiential Classes

Our experiential classes give our students the opportunity to learn French through experience: mindfulness classes, cooking workshops, yoga in French, and more!
