Fundraising Goals 2024

As a dynamic 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Alliance Française de Seattle relies on public support and private donations to serve our community. Our language and cultural center thrives thanks to the dedication of our staff and teachers. With the generous help of our donors and sponsors, we can continue offering unique cultural and educational programs.

We need your support to enhance our mission and create bilingual opportunities accessible to everyone in our community. Seattle is an international hub where multicultural arts and language diversity should be encouraged. With your help, the Alliance Française de Seattle can lead in fostering cross-cultural partnerships.

Whether you are a student, young professional, generous benefactor, or a lover of French and Francophone culture, your support is vital and appreciated. Every donation, big or small, helps grow our vibrant community of French learners and culture enthusiasts.

Cultural & Arts Programs

Help us bring more French and Francophone internationally acclaimed cultural events to Seattle!

  • The Night of Ideas - March 2025

AFSeattle will participate in this global celebration featuring philosophical debates, performances, and readings across over 20 cities. Launched in the US in 2015 by the French Embassy, the Night of Ideas invites thought leaders to discuss a central question addressing contemporary global issues. AFSeattle joined for the first time in 2023 and continued our involvement in 2024, making Seattle a key part of this event. Help us expand our presence in 2025!

  • Portrait of Ludmilla as Nina Simone - Tentative date: March 8, 2025

The AFSeattle is partnering with Théatre Raymond Kabbaz in Los Angeles to present the US 2025 tour of Portrait of Ludmilla as Nina Simone. This play offers a musical portrait of Nina Simone, blending documentary-style interviews with her iconic songs to explore her journey from a blocked classical career to a civil rights icon. With Ludmilla Dabo embodying Simone’s spirit and a guitar replacing the piano to symbolize the racism she faced, the performance intertwines personal and political narratives, creating a vivid tribute to both Simone and Dabo.

Text and direction : David Lescot
Songs : Nina Simone
With Ludmilla Dabo and David Lescot

"Ludmilla Dabo embodies Nina Simone with dazzling talent, delivering a vibrant and powerful performance in David Lescot's tailor-made show that blends music, femininity, and the profound legacy of the soul diva."
Le Monde

"David Lescot and Ludmilla Dabo form a perfect duo, delivering a powerful, politically resonant performance that revives Nina Simone's legacy with a seamless blend of music, theater, and profound artistic connection."

Scholarships & Education Innovation

  • Scholarships

Each year, with the support of our sponsors and donors, we expand our scholarship program to help French learners and families in need who might not otherwise access foreign-language education. Our scholarships are available to all Washington state residents, whether they study online or in person. While most are partial, we offer a few full scholarships on a case-by-case basis. We prioritize families in need but also support adults pursuing their educational goals. In the 2023-2024 school year, we awarded 30 scholarships to students of various ages in need.

  • Youth Innovation Grant

This grant kickstarts innovative projects exploring and encouraging French and bilingual education, conceptualized and executed by our youth students. Our 2023 grant recipient is bringing a French Little Library to Wallingford!
