Diplomas (DELF, DALF, DAEFLE)

All tests and exams are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. The exams DELF and DALF result in a diploma that confirms a language proficiency level that is valid for life. Tests and exams take place the Alliance Française de Seattle. To register, please find the level of your choice below and follow the registration procedure.

Alternatively, should you need an official evaluation of your level for immigration to Canada, French citizenship, or admission to a Francophone university, you may register for a TEF test. Please check the TEF page for further details. Some employees and universities in France may also accept an Ev@lang result; please check with them.

How do I take an exam ?

I select my exam below, complete the registration form and complete the payment.

 I receive an email confirmation with my exam procedures.

10 days before my exam, I receive an official convocation & my oral exam schedule.

On the day of the exam, I arrive at the center 20-30 minutes early to check in.

4-6 weeks later: I receive my results by email; the diploma is shipped 5-6 months later to AFSeattle.

2024 Exam Calendar:

  • DELF Junior (13-17) will be offered in March 2024 only;
  • DELF Prim (8-12) will be offered in March and May 2024 only;
  • DELF/DALF Tout Public (18+) will be offered in March, June and December 2024.
  • DAEFLE (Epreuves Finales) are offered in May and December 2024 (scroll down to DAEFLE to apply).

Registration closes on the date mentioned below at 12PM Pacific time.

Types of DELF Exams

DELF/DALF

Diplôme d’études en langue française et Diplôme approfondi en langue française [version dès 18 ans]

Awarded by the French Ministry of Education, the DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) is a diploma that certifies non-French candidates’ proficiency in French. Sessions take place in March, June, and December. It includes a written exam and an oral exam.

Attestations available about 4 weeks after. Diplomas arrive 6 months later. Valid for life

A1 to C2

DELF Junior

Diplôme d’études en langue française
[version junior 13-17 ans]

Awarded by the French Ministry of Education, the junior version of the DELF has the same basic structure as the standard DELF, with topics adapted for young people. Candidates must be between 13-17. The diploma awarded is identical to the DELF. The test includes a written exam and an oral exam.

DELF Prim

Diplôme d’études en langue française [version prim 8-12 ans]

Awarded by the French Ministry of Education, the DELF Prim is intended for children ages 8-12 who are beginners in French as a Foreign Language and who are either undertaking studies corresponding to the French elementary level or are the right age to undertake such studies under the regulations applicable in their country. Successful candidates receive a diploma identical to the general public version. The test includes a written exam and an oral exam.

En partenariat avec le CNED, l’Alliance Française de Paris gère la formation professionnelle à distance DAEFLE (Diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du français langue étrangère).  Cette formation est accessible uniquement par voie d’un test d’accès (instructions) et est validée par l’un des examens finaux afin d’obtenir le DAEFLE.  L’Alliance Française de Seattle est un centre de tests pour l’examen final DAEFLE.
